Skincare Problems Due to Humidity and Tips to Battle Them

If you live the coast or are planning to step into a tropical country this summer, prepare for humid conditions and sunburn. Basically, humidity is the amount of water vapor present in the air, and is prevalent in tropical countries, jungles and areas with large bodies of water. It is not a bad thing entirely: if humidity is high, the skin is able to absorb moisture in the air. This enables it to automatically moisturize itself – you don’t need to heavily apply moisturizers.

However, it can pose a few problems as well, so it’s best to arm yourself with skincare products and information which can help you deal with it.

Sweating Heavily

High humidity makes it seem hotter than it is, thus making you sweat more. We all know that sweat-filled skin can pave the way for uncomfortable situations a few skin problems. Though you can easily keep yourself cool through air conditioning, there’s no way you can avoid it if you’re outdoors. Sweating can bring dehydration, both on the skin (due to perspiration’s high salt content) and on the inside.

Wear loose clothing and drink a lot of water to make up for the water you’ve lost through sweating!

Body Odor

One of the worst problems brought about by humid weather is body odor, which is caused by sweaty armpits. It is never a pleasant smell: the odor can waft through air conditioned rooms and smell like spoiled canned tuna mixed with rotten eggs. Plus, smelling bad will always be a turn off!

Combat body odor by simply using antiperspirant or deodorant . Body sprays also work, along with potassium alum crystals/powders. Taking baths before social engagements will also help in this regard.

Acne Breakouts

Although acne is primarily caused by hormonal surges, high humidity provides ideal conditions for it to appear. Bear in mind that acne is an emotionally devastating disease which can cause teenagers and young adults to lose self-esteem and confidence. In severe cases, it can also lead to depression.

In order to prevent severe breakouts this summer, simply observe proper hygiene: use a natural and mild skin cleanser
wash your face after perspiring. Alcohol-based washes can be harsh on the skin, since it can suck out the moisture out of it and cause irritation.

Boost in Oil Production

One of the reasons why acne breakouts are common during summer is thanks to the humidity boosting the skin’s oil production. This can be pretty irritating and embarrassing: an oily skin is never pleasant to have, considering how uncomfortable it is to have some.

In this case, your best bet is to limit your time outdoors and avoid conditions and situations which can make yourself sweat heavily. Try not to touch your oil-laced skin as well, considering that bacteria may dig inside skin pores and cause acne and other infections, especially if you’re spending a lot of time outdoors.

Overall, don’t let humidity get the best of you this summer. Employ the abovementioned skin care methods and you’ll be on your way to having one of the best summers ever!
